What is Kriya Yoga?
Kriya Yoga is an ancient system of meditation – simple yet precise steps of breath and body techniques with chakra contemplation. Regular practice leads to mental stability, inner peace, and awareness. Kriya is not associated with any particular religion; it helps to deepen personal spiritual experience. The tradition is passed down in a direct teacher-disciple lineage, and practice usually begins with initiation by an authorized teacher.
In Sanskrit, the word kriya has two roots, “kri” and “ya.” Kri means “action, effort,” while ya can be interpreted in various ways, including “Atman, soul.” Thus, the concept of kriya refers to an action involving the soul, or the highest transcendental being of a human being.
Kriya yoga exercises allow you to “rise above” everyday thoughts, worries, and physical sensations. Regular practice in accordance with the instructions transforms the perception of inner energy and allows one to feel higher or divine vibrations, sounds, and expressions of light, thus enabling one to experience the more hidden layers of self-awareness. After successful meditation, a person experiences a deep sense of inner peace, and everyday activities and thoughts become more balanced, calmer, and more effective.
In order to achieve growth, meditation must be practiced regularly and correctly, which is why the guidance and initiation of a Kriya master or teacher is necessary.
Knowledge gained from books or instructions found on the Internet does not provide a complete understanding of this meditation system. The knowledge of Kriya is still passed on in the traditional way – directly from the Teacher to his disciples and followers.
The practice is not associated with any particular religion or sect. As Kriya Yoga masters emphasize, Kriya Yoga is the common path of all religions, because Kriya is older than any religion that exists today. It has been practiced for twenty thousand years, and elements of it can be found in the ancient traditions of many cultures. By practicing Kriya Yoga, everyone can better understand their own religious beliefs.
How does it work?
What is not Kriya?
No fitness yoga or asana training
Kriya is not oriented towards physical exertion or flexibility goals; the main focus is on breathing, inner awareness, and peace of mind.
Not an esoteric “miracle cure” or magic
Kriya is a structured discipline of breath and attention, not a set of rituals or occult practices.
No promises of “quick fixes”
Kriya is not a miracle technique for overnight change. Results come from calm, regular practice.
No competition or race for achievements
Kriya is not a competition of "levels" or a measure of ego; it is a quiet, personal practice.
No religious affiliation or conversion
Kriya is non-sectarian and respects each person's personal beliefs. It is not affiliated with any denomination or ideology.
No hyperventilation or extreme breath holding
Breathing is controlled safely and rhythmically, avoiding techniques that are harmful to the body.
No mass online course without initiation
The craft is passed on directly from teacher to apprentice. YouTube/online clips are no substitute for initiation and personal guidance.
No commercial "club" structure or compulsory payments
Donations/contributions are transparent and related to the organization of seminars; there are no hidden systems.
Not a substitute for medical therapy or psychotherapy
Practice can support well-being, but illness is diagnosed and treated by a doctor. If there are health risks, consult a specialist.

Is initiation necessary?
Yes. Kriya is transmitted directly from teacher to disciple, so the practice begins with initiation by an authorized master or yogacharya. This ensures accuracy, safety, and continuity of the tradition.
Is Kriya compatible with my faith?
Yes. Kriya is a non-sectarian practice—it does not require you to join a religious organization and can deepen your personal spiritual experience, whatever that may be.
How often should you practice?
It is better to exercise for shorter periods of time on a regular basis than rarely and for long periods of time. We recommend daily exercise (e.g., in the morning and/or evening), adjusting the duration to suit your rhythm.
Can Krija be learned online without initiation?
No. Videos or articles can provide background information, but they cannot replace initiation and personal guidance. The basic practices are taught and adapted by an authorized Teacher in person.
Health safety – what to pay attention to?
Kriya is not a medical therapy. If you have serious health complaints, are pregnant, or have recently undergone surgery, consult your doctor before practicing and inform the Teacher of your needs.
Is previous yoga experience and special equipment necessary?
No. An open attitude and willingness to learn are sufficient. Clothing should be comfortable and suitable for well-being; no special aids are required (if necessary, a suitable seating solution will be provided on site).
